I finally saved some money and got much needed dental work done. The total plan was done at a very large dentistry network with ortho, dentist, cosmetics, full mouth reconstructions etc are done, so I felt I was in great hands.
After the first appt., free evaluation, and about 30 X-rays later I was shown the game plan. I may be saying this wrong, but I had 4 extractions in the past, so 4 crowns with bridges were needed, 2 root canals, ZOOM II whitening, full cleaning, then Invisalign braces. Total bill 16k. I didn't save that much, but the dentist insisted to save the teeth around the extractions a bridge was necessary. Let me add I have NO MOUTH PAIN WHATSOEVER!! I'll fast forward to now on one side lower 1 root canal and temp crown/bridge. Same side upper he grinded a filled tooth down and put crown/bridge. This was 4 days ago!! I can't eat at all on that side, if I push on the upper or lower temp. crown/bridges it hurts this can't be normal can it? I'm starting to regret this 16K
Temporary crowns pain etc!!?
The grinding down has caused a misalignment in your bite which will be corrected when the crown is placed. In the meantime, some tylenol or ibuprofen would be appropriate. Since this is being done in stages, you can stop at any time, allow your mouth to heal, save some more money and then proceed with the rest of your plan.
Reply:This pain is in normal range if it was only 4 days ago, your gums and teeth had major surgery and needs time to heal and the temp does not help it at all but it will get better and once you have you crowns and bridge on, this will be a distant memory.
Reply:First let me emphasize that this process isn't going to be pleasant. Sure you are paying a lot of money to get a service, but such service comes with the understanding that mild pain and discomfort will be part of the process of replacing lost teeth. Temporary crowns and bridges are temporary for a reason. The dentist and his assistants do their best to make a custom temporaries in a relatively short period of time. These temporaries are inherently porous and do not insulate the underlying tooth as well as the final product. The dental lab ceramists have many, many hours to fabricate ideal contours and margins with the help of computers and various devices. Once the final product is cemented, discomfort and pain should be a thing fo the past. With that said, the number one problem with dental temporaries is the bite not being just right. Even a slight high spot, especially on a multi-unit bridge, will be noticably painful and sensitive to cold. Also, as I mentioned, temporaries are prone to shrinkage and flexure with oral temperature. Cold fluids and foods will shock these areas and you should chew on the opposite side or avoid these foods until the final crowns and bridges are placed.
Take ibuprofen for mild pain, but see your dentist to make sure that the bite is correct. If your temporaries fail long before the final products are fabricated, the dentist will have a hell of a time making adjustments on the day of cementation.
Good luck.
Reply:A small differnce in the correct fit can cause inflammation and swelling. This will subside once the problem is fixed.
Reply:1. Any crown or bridge preparation damages teeth, just as does any filling. Thankfully teeth are fairly resilient and can recover from the insult in most cases after a couple of days.
Whereas most cavities go into the depth of the tooth and therefore the deeper the more likely you will have post-op pain, with crown preps it is usually shallower but over a much wider area, so same post-op pain can occur. There is a 5-10% chance of irreversible nerve damage which leads to a Root Canal Therapy - this should've been explained to you for your informed consent.
2. Depending upon the angulation of the teeth supporting the bridge, sometimes the preparation can be deeper than usual. The final preparation on the supporting teeth (abutments) must ideally be parallel to each other. If the teeth are tilted, then the preparation might go deeper than usual, and therefore more post-op pain is likely. For some tilted teeth, where parallelism would cause too much deepening, then the bridge should be made in 2 separate parts with a semi-fixed connector (male/female) slots.
3. The temporary crowns are cemented on with a temporary and soft cement. Usually this is a zinc oxide/eugenol cement that has some painkilling properties. However, it does start to leak after a few days, and it is important to get the real bridges back ASAP.
So, either you are having standard post-op pain which you should control with ibuprofen; or the prep was deeper than normal; or they didn't use a eugenol temp cement; or the temp cement is leaking. Ring the dentist.

Which is more gory and disgusting?
which is more disgusting a dentist or an orthodontistcause i really wanna have a disgusting job and i fink dentistry would be good.
also is a cosmetic surgeon disgusting or gory
can you tell me what parts if each job are gory and disgusting
thanks
Which is more gory and disgusting?
I don't want you to be my dentist or surgeon
Reply:check out nip/tuck ......... very disgusting
Reply:I don't see dentistry as gory unless the tooth is in abscess and infected then it could be a bit disgusting but its not that often. Orthodontist has a pretty easy job just tightening the wires..
I have seen cosmetic surgery before with the container of fat in the surgery room that IS pretty disgusting opt for that lots of blood ;-)
Reply:I'd go for proctologist if I were you.
Reply:there may be blood but I dont think they are gory/disgusting jobs. Maybe a cosmetic surgeon is gory. Be a mortician that's gross.
Reply:If you really want a gory job, how about being a Coroner. Or you could be on the team that cleans up after a crime scene----that could be really disgusting.
Reply:as a dentist i get to see quite a bit of pus and blood. also, periodontal disease has an especially putrid odor. it's a pretty gross job sometimes.
if you want really gross you should be a coroner.
Reply:be a plastic surgeon! you sound pretty vain, make big bucks and be totally grossed out everyday you go to work!
Reply:I think cutting people up would be pretty disgusting - so yes for the cosmetic surgeon.
A dentist wouldn't usually be terrible, but you would have to drill a lot of teeth, probably. That might be gross.
As far as I know (which admittedly isn't much), orthodontists basically just do external type stuff like fit your teeth for braces. So maybe that would be less disgusting.
But if you're even thinking about this at all, the medical profession in general just might not be for you. You should consider other options for your future career.
Reply:The job I used to work was pretty gory and sometimes very disgusting. I'm an OB/Gyn CNP, so I delivered babies and did pap smears and vag exams all day. Birth can be really gory, and it's always messy. You see some pretty gross things come in the door, like certain STD's, infections, smells, you name it. Pretty gross sometimes. Also, where else can you see someone poop on a table and not be offended by it ;) ?
As far as your options, cosmetic surgeon is the most bloody. They get all the bad cases, but then so do periodontists get pretty good stuff too. Prosthodontists deal with fake teeth and do a lot on implantations, so that's another choice. Anyways, look into some and see what you really want to do. I do have to warn you, it's pretty tough to get into most dentistry schools, your grades have to be almost perfect, and the tests are pretty hard. But it's a good profession all in all.
If you just want to go for gory, and don't care if it deals with the mouth, check into being a surgeon, or a plastic surgeon. Both deal with the insides of people, how much more gory can you get? And let me tell you, there are some gross things when you deal with infections, or ruptures or anything of that sort.
Good luck to you!!! I hope you find what you want to do in life! It's a tough choice!
Reply:Why do you want a gory job? That is just weird.

Becoming a dentist?
I want to ask is it hard to become dentist? I am considering going to Boston University School of Dental medicine. So I want to ask what classes should I expect and if it is hard. I like medicine somewhat and also I think I can make a good money with it. My plan is to finish that school get a job somewhere as being a dentist have it for about a year or two, and then move privately and open and have a two or more dentist places. I think I would pratice cosmetic and family dentistry. Anyway this isnt for sure as I am just thinking about. At first I want to study business, but now I don't know.
Becoming a dentist?
Well, if you study and know everything you need to know about being a dentist, it's not that hard..
Medicine is harder.. Trust me.

The cost of straightening your teeth with clear invisible braces from Invisalign????
I am hoping to get it done from Pakistan supposing there is even anInvisalign Certified Orthodontist there. Though, I'm presuming that there must be as the investor was in fact Pakistani and cosmetic surgery and dentistry is becoming rather common in Pakistan.
It should most probably be cheaper in Pakistan too, but how much????
Thanks.
The cost of straightening your teeth with clear invisible braces from Invisalign????
i've heard it's twice as expensive as regular braces so probably between 5,000-10,000 USD
Reply:Invisilign doesn't work. Don't do it unless you want teef.
Reply:well, the cost of braces here in WI where I live, is about $5350, so i'd consider the costs of both before trying anything out.
Reply:Not sure you can get them in Pakistan yet, but if you
are in the USA, look on the WiDentist network,
they will save you 25% min.

Is your dentist is salesman just like mine?
Most people hate going to the dentst. However, most of us want to get our teeth cleaned twice a year and x-rays taken once a year to make sure we have no cavities under the fillings and gums. Although I like my dentist and he does a great job, I am so sick of him telling me I should have this old filling replaced and a crown put here and there, and that he can do bonding %26amp; veneers, porcelain reconstructive dentistry, cosmetic smile makeovers, etc., etc. It just turns me right off to listen to him every time I go for a cleaning (he does the cleanings himself). I've changed dentists before because I got sick of them trying to sell me something I didn't want (like having a false tooth made for a back tooth). I've gotten to the point where I only get my teeth cleaned once a year now so I won't have to listen to the sales pitch. It not only wastes my time but it wastes his also. Who out there agrees with me on this subject?
Is your dentist is salesman just like mine?
I know they are just trying to make money off you. Don't fall into those scams!
Reply:mine tried that too but I told him I wouldnt try to sell him things from my kids school fundraiser if he would quit trying to pump up the bill for me. I told him I was basically cheap and he was wasting my time. We now laugh about it.
Reply:You know- I agree with you! I went to the dentist the other day and every time I go they try to talk me into whitening! I'm like "no it's not covered by my insurance so I'll pass." How annoying! And they said that in one of my teeth there is a cavity starting, but it's not big enough to be called a cavity, (from what I understand) so they want to drill it and put a preventative sealant over it. So if they're gonna numb me up and drill anyway, I'm just gonna wait till it's a cavity and let my insurance cover it! DUH! All they want is money!
Reply:Oh man, I am so sick of that. I had two cavities grow worse because I they would NEVER give me proper x-rays and cleaning because one of my teeth needed another crown.
I had a root canal four years ago and the new dentist tried to tell me that the Beverly Hills doc I went to for the RC messed things up. So, of cause, they would have to go in and fix it. I didn't believe that for a second, but they refused to do a cleaning.
Reply:It sounds like you don't trust your dentistS. If you are bothering to have your teeth cleaned 2x a year and not get the small things fixed why are you wasting your time? Dentists HAVE to offer treatment plans FOR YOUR HEALTH it is not about lining their pockets and if you feel that is all he is up to, than by all means find another dentist that is just interested in maintaining your current restorations, but a little advice, fillings don't last forever and neither will your teeth. If you tell your dentist up front I am only interested in the cheapest way to restore my teeth, nothing more, I guarantee he will stop talking to you about crowns, bridges, root canals, veneers, implants,or any other high-end treatment plans.
We are in this business to improve people's health, if they wish to leave it as status quo than you have to tell them. They will still talk to you about restorations that are crumbling, but they will understand where you are coming from.
Reply:I just answered someone else on this, I have thought about this for years. all doctors are salesmen, they sell you as much doom and gloom as they can. they get you to try drugs and take x rays and come back for more test. I see my doctor once yr for pap and go to the dentist once a yr for cleaning. I'm going though something right now with the dentist, a back tooth I've ask him to just pull, he wants to put in an implant that cost $3000, so I went to someone else.
it is endless and more people need to realize it. and stay off the prescription meds if you can.
Reply:pick a different dentist.
I've been to a diff dentist every time I've been, the last 4 times. This one (I saw today actually) is OK.
I asked about sealants and he told me the 3 best teeth for them to go on, not "have them all done while you're at it" etc.
Reply:My sister's dentist does the same thing. I think he just wants more money and these extra things aren't necessary.
Reply:No one LIKES to hear they need any treatment done, but I trust my dentist and want to keep my teeth for as long as possible. Those of you who believe your dentist is just a salesman........I feel sad for you. You obviously don't have the relationship with your dentist that I have with mine. My children and I have gone to my dentist all their lives and I can't think of anyone I trust more to tell me what I need "dental-wise".
My life, my body , my children are an investment and they are all worth taking care of.
What if your regular doctor told you needed a kidney transplant or that you have cancer, are these doctors viewed as salesmen too??? Maybe it is time for you to really evaluate what you are upset over. Is it the fact that you need treatment or is it that you don't want to know, or don't want to invest the time and money. Denial can be a killer in many ways. :o(
Reply:I've had this happen a few times, and I walk away every time. I don't want to stay with someone I don't trust. I once declined on the recommendations, and they had a telemarketer call me at home about a month later! They wanted to replace crowns, fillings, etc that were not very old. It didn't seem necessary.
This was in one of those chain dental offices. I only went because it was conveniently located downtown right near where I worked. I got the feeling they had a bunch of very young recent dental grads, and probably pressured them to meet quotas. That's how it felt.
I had a great dentist for many years that did only what was necessary, and would recommend things ocassionally. He checked with my insurance first and would quote all my options to the penny and get my approval before doing it. He was awesome, but I move out of the state.
I had one dentist that did a bunch of things he did not initially quote while "I was under anyway", and tacked it onto my bill!
Last year I went to have a cleaning and x-rays (specifically). Again, this was one of those awful chains, and I went because of the convenient location. They did not do the cleaning when I went in. They looked at my teeth, did not even check for cavities, or check my gums, or look for basic dental problems, and instead immediately tried to sell me on veneers, and gave me a quote on those (for ALL my front top teeth?!). They told me I'd have to reschedule for the cleaning, etc. Out of curiosity, I asked for before and after pics of veneers they'd done and they gave me a notebook full of before and after pics cut out of a magazine of Hollywood celebrities who have had them. Jennifer Aniston obviously did not have hers done there! What is going on?
I went to a different dentist (private practice) afterwards and now much happier.

Short courses in dentistry?
I want to know about any short dental courses that I can cover in a couple of weeks. Endodontics, cosmetics, implants, any. Can anyone guide me as to where such courses are taught?
Short courses in dentistry?
I just read about a new center for advanced dental education that will be headed by Dr. Gordon Christensen in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. Check out http://www.thescottsdalecenter.com/ and see if they have what you need. They will be opening in April, but I am sure that anything GC is associated with will be top-flight.
Reply:IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED SOME C.E.COURSES, CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL DENTAL SOCIETY BRANCH.

I need to do some cosmetic dental imaging a place that can do the before and after photos?
I have already taken the before photos, but I need to show what teeth will look like after just to give the patient an idea of how things will look who dentistry is done.

I believe the one we used was SmileVision. We don't do too many anymore though, so you might want to check and make sure I got that name right. They do the photos bases on your specifications: 6-11, 7-10, 22-27, or full arch. You also give them the general shade that you are looking for and any specific shape that you want.
Reply:Do you find it ironic that your name is tiff and you are asking a question about digital photography?

Does anyone know anything about NHS dentistry?!?
basically i had 2 crowns fitted about 3 years ago for cosmetic reasons, but this was free for me on the nhs at the time. I understand they don't do this anymore unless you need the crowns, but as they fitted them will they have to replace them? Also i would like to get my two front teeth crowned to close a gap, how much will this cost at a nhs dentist? thanks
Does anyone know anything about NHS dentistry?!?
NHS dentists under the new contract are only obliged to make you dentally fit and when they do that 2months later you are no longer their responsibility as NHS registration no longer exists. dentally fit does not include cosmetic work eg closing gaps, re your crown they are not obliged to change them and if they are sound but look unsightly... they will be left. charge wise you will pay a set fee for crowns wither its 1 2 or 10 you have done. hope this helps
Reply:Yes you have to pay I think that crowns are about £100 each on NHS Dentist. If you are in a fund like LHF you can claim an amount of money back each year to cover costly dentistry work.
Your dentist will probably advise against doing such work anyway whilst you are pregnant.
Reply:NHS dentists have really had the screw turned on them in terms of what they can now charge. The maximum amount you will pay in any continuous two month period for any number of treatments is £194. Basically you only pay for the treatment that is in the highest band. It is likely then that it will be economically undesirable for dentists to treat some patients.

Dentistry costs?
I've got 3 stains on my teeth which have been there all my life - the dentist said they are part of the tooth and can only be removed with cosmetic surgery which is £750 for 3 teeth. Would it be possible to pay this money over a couple of years or will the dentist expect it to be given to him straight away?
Dentistry costs?
Most dentists expect payment up front. Talk to him though and see if you can make payment arrangements. If he wont, you can always call around.
Reply:Oh yes! You can a loan to pay in three years.
Reply:Most dentists will expect payment in full. Most dental offices do not offer payment plans b/c you get too much in debt b/c people don't always make the payments they say they will. They usually offer financial plans such as CareCredit which is an outside financing company. They often offer no interest for 1 year if approved and put a certain amount of money is borrowed.

How much would it cost to fix a chipped tooth?
Hello,
I chipped my left front tooth a while back. I am considering getting it fixed or "capped", I think is the term. Anyway, how much would it cost for this procedure? Below is a picture of a tooth SIMILAR to what mine looks like:
http://www.seattle-dentist.com/images/we...
Please see the photo, and maybe you can give me an estimate of what it would cost. I know it's not covered by my insurance, since it's "cosmetic" dentistry.
Thank you in advance.
(BTW, mine is just a BIT more chipped than the one in the picture. Of course I can live with this chipped tooth, but I would rather have it fixed.)
How much would it cost to fix a chipped tooth?
My front tooth was chipped, and my dentist added some filler material, then buffed it down. You can't even tell, it's exactly the color of my tooth. He only charged me $30, and it took him about 5 minutes.

When do i pay? Before or After?
I'm looking at having some cosmetic dentistry (new venneers) and wondered if I paid before treatment or after? I've had a dentist before that promised my teeth would be whiter but I was highly dissapointed but had already paid.
When do i pay? Before or After?
Most Dentist offices will have you pay half at the first appointment and the rest on the day of putting the veneers on... If your not all that happy with your Dr. you should find another one because the work your having done is VERY expensive and is a life long commitment,,so make sure you trust him or her before having the work done%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Good Luck and Happy Smiles!!!!
Reply:Pay after, that way if you dont like what you get you can ask them to maybe fix it. Its not like your going to jip them because you HAVE to pay them. If you tell them your unsatisfied they will probably help you out.
Reply:Depends on the office financial policy. Call and ask and make sure you get a copy of your financial arrangement after you review and sign it.
Way to go on the new veneers!!!
Reply:I am having cosmetic dentistry at the moment, and, although i know how much my bill will be, i will pay it at the end. In fact, i paid half, because the laboratory needed paying for work on my teeth for the last year ( yep, one whole year) and when is all finished i willl settle the bill. But i can say, pay at the end ( or as work progresses and you are happy)

What steps should i take ?
I am a Junior in Highschool and i was thinking about becoming a dentist, orthodontist or specialize in cosmetic dentistry. I just need to know a couple of things:
1. I was wondering what are some of the best colleges that offer a pre-dental program.
2. Right now i am taking A.P. Physics and i want to know which course is better to take in my senior year A.P. Chemistry or A.P. Biology, which will help me prepare for courses i will be taking in college and for my career choice.
3. one last thing is that i know it will take me about 8 years to become a dentist, are their any schools that offer a special program that will shorten the time period before i can get a DDS.
What steps should i take ?
TO ASK FOR THE BEST COLLEGES, YOU WILL GET A BIAS ANSWER. I SUGGEST DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO GO TO A COLLEGE NEAR HOME AND IF SO, VISIT THESE COLLEGES AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. GOO THINGS TO CHECK FOR ARE THE FACILITIES, THE PASS RATES, THE FEES, THE KIND OF LECTURERS. YOU CAN GET THE NAMES OF THE COLLEGES AND GOOGLE THEM, AN GET INFO OFF THE NET.
YOU WILL NEED CHEM AND BIO
SORRY THE TIME PERIOD CANNOT BE SHORTENED
Reply:It definitely depends on where you want to go to college. i am a sophmore in high school and have always wanted to become a dental hygenist. I have been looking into some things over the past couple of years.
I live in Arizona (beautiful state!) and the best university there that offers dentistry is Northern Arizona University. They have the best plan there after college and will help get you a job and help pay your fees. This is only if you work for them after college.
NAU is in Flagstaff, Arizona and has nice weather. If you are from the snow Flagstaff has about 20in. of snow each winter. Nice mild climates.
Hopefully this background information helps!!!

The dentist I have referred to has been a dentist 30 years and a biologic dentist over 15 years. One day, he put 15 amalgams in a 12 year old boy. The boy got severe migraines. He couldn't bear to think that it was something he had done. he began to study mercury. Then, he began taking the fillings out and replacing them. The more he removed, the less the headaches. today he is happy and health. It was then he said, "That's it, no more mercury in my office!"
Myself, I nearly died of mercury poisoning. If it were not for my dentist, I would have.

Excerpt from Chapter 3 "Trust Me"
"Let’s take a closer look at the ethics of modern dentistry. As you will see in this article, for the majority of dentists it is all about money and little about the cavities, since cavities have declined dramatically in the last 20 years. This article from Reader’s Digest sets the tone for what comes later in this book. Suffice to say that you will find dentists’ credibility poor when they tell us to trust them, their dental association, or the dental industry. Of course there are good dentists out there, but you will see that the majority cannot agree on the simplest diagnosis, so they surely must be ignored in their statements about the safety of amalgam."

Gummy smile and gum contouring?
I have a gummy smile and I hate it. I was looking up online about something called "gum contouring" but all the sites I went to were british. Have you or anyone you know had this done? Was is expensive? Did you have to go to a dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry?
Gummy smile and gum contouring?
oh yeah this is no problem! in my office i use a laser to remove a little gum tissue if we are talking just a little reshaping. that's usually just called a gingivectomy.
your central incisors are typically 8 mm wide and 10 mm tall. if you need 4 or more mm of tissue removed then you should consider going to a periodontist. all they do is work on gums and related procedures. that procedure is called crown lengthening.
if it's the first option then it's relatively pain free and not that expensive. if you need the second option then obviously it's a little more intense as far as discomfort and cost go.
google "cosmetic crown lengthening" and you'll get more info than you can imagine.
good luck.

I recently changed dentists & the new dentist took x-rays when my old ones were just done 2 yrs. ago. Typical?
Or are they just trying to get more $$ from me/insurance? My old dentist took x-rays every 3-5 yrs. but it seems they are all trying to sell you on cosmetic dentistry, pulling out old fillings to do new ones, etc. Do you have this problem with yours??
I recently changed dentists %26amp; the new dentist took x-rays when my old ones were just done 2 yrs. ago. Typical?
I got xrays every time I went for a check up and clean, every 6 months. Its just to check if cavities have formed over time and to catch a cavity before it becomes more sever that you could lose a tooth and end up getting a crown or root canal. I think you got a good dentist, and it will only save you money in the future, because its better to fill a little hole, and cheaper, than say getting a root canal...
Reply:My dentist takes x-rays every year.
Reply:My dentist takes x-rays once a year...so no, I don't think they're ripping you off. Its a way to check if you have any new cavities.
Reply:wow, my dentist takes them once every year!!
must be getting ripped off too.
And i just paid 207 bucks today for a cleaning!
Yea, and now i have to go back because 2 of my fillings need to be re-filled :( im gonna be so broke!
Reply:You should have x-rays once per year. A lot can happen to your teeth in a just a few months.
Reply:It is very typical for a new Dentist to do his own x-rays. Alot can change in 2 years. My Dentist currently takes x-rays about every 2 years. I do agree with them trying to sell you all kinds of cosmetic stuff though. Mine always seems to be pitching something new.
Reply:Truth is you should have x-rays every 6 months. But don't let them tell you they need to replace old ones for NEW ones. A dentist did that to me once he took out the old ones, put in temps then thats when your problem will really begin.
Reply:Yeah, that's pretty typical, specially coz now you have a new dentist.
Reply:With the fact that your new dentist has never seen inside your mouth, an oral X-ray is a good starting place to see if you have any hidden cavities, or problems that might pop up later, such as an impacted wisdom tooth. Once he is seeing you on a somewhat regular basis, I'm sure the X-rays will lengthen out again to every 3-5 years unless a sudden problem pops up, such as an abscess. I wish my last dentist had done this, as he only treated what was obvious, and now 3 years later I am having to remove all of my teeth due to untreated gum disease with bone deterioration.
Reply:If your dentist takes the x-rays less than once a year, you should change the dentist.
It is for your benefit, the x-rays show any changes and can detect new cavities sooner that just by looking into the mouth. Whole mouth x-ray usually taken once in 3-5 years.
If you are a new patient in the office you are usually asked when was the last x-ray taken, and if it is less that one year the x-ray can be requested from your previous dentist.
As for a white fillings - they are pretty much replacing old silver nationwide. They are as good as silver, with no mercury in them. They are a bit more expensive and insurances don't like to pay for them tough. But than insurance never wants to pay for anything good. :)
Reply:Of course, whenever you transfer dentists they have to have new and old records of your teeth to keep you in their system because if you're going to a new dentist and you had to have something done to your teeth, then they know where to start.
Reply:I think mine does it every other visit, which works out to once each year, like others are saying.
Reply:If you are prone to cavities, then every 2 years is routine. Cavities take about 1 year to develop, and x-rays are the best way to catch them early. Maybe you can avoid a filling if caught early.
Reply:If your previous x-rays were sent to your new dentist, and it was a full mouth series (16 x-rays) there should be no reason for another one.
Dental insurance companies cover a full mouth series every 3-5 yrs. Depending on your insurance.
On the other hand...you may have just had bite-wing x-rays taken. These x-rays are taken every year to diagnose any carries between the teeth. Usually they will consist of 2-4 films. These x-rays are covered every year by insurance as well.
There are many reasons why dentists remove old fillings. Silver or amalgam fillings are not as good as white or composite fillings. The amalgam fillings are not bonded to your tooth structure and over time crack or leak. This will cause decay under a filling.Composite fillings are bonded to your tooth and actually become one w/ your tooth. They do not leak. This is the number one reason for replacing a filling.
If you have a silver filling replaced for strictly asthetic purposes it will not be covered by insurance. Insurance companies ask for an x-ray to determine if they are going to pay or not.
Usually dentists don't rip people off (even though most people seem to think they do). A dentist is not willing to loose his practice over a few hundred dollars. By law they have to suggest certain things that should be done. It is up to you to decide whether or not you are willing to go through w/ treatment or just let it go. Everything that is suggested is documented in your chart. If you choose to let it go and your teeth get worse, the dentist is not responsible b/c you were told about the problem.
All in all...a dentist is not going to cheat you. They are there to make sure your mouth stays healthy.
If you really feel you are being cheated, get a second opinion.

Should I let my regular dentist do my 6 crownd in the front?
Ive seen all the things saying to have a dentist that specializes in cosmetic dentistry do it instead. Im wondering if my regular dentist can do a good job too? I got a model back from the lab of my teeth and he said I "gaurantee" they will look exactly like that. I asked him if he does this often he said "from time to time".
I also saw a crown he did on one of his assistants and it looked good, and he explained to me last week he had done veneers on a woman 25 yrs ago and she had 2 of them redone last week, so I guess they will last.
He gives them a warranty of 5 yrs where he will fix them for free in that time. Also when I asked how long I asked how long they would last he said " I will have to redo them in my lifetime" . He was not pushy about me getting them done and did not try to convince me to go ahead with it. If it matters at all he went to an IB league school.
Should I let my regular dentist do my 6 crownd in the front?
do not mess with your teeth unless u HAVE to. alot of people have had botched jobs done on their teeth and it's a hard thing to correct, if u can. life isn't perfect. looks aren't perfect. he gave u a "guarantee" that they will look a certain way? get that in writing. he shouldn't mind, since you probably had to "guarantee" to pay him. his assistants crown looked good? of course....
please rethink....
Reply:i had a crown done by regular dentist and it looks good.
Reply:I think you should let your dentist do it. For one, it would be cheaper then going to a cosmetic dentist. Cosmetics are very expensive. Also, your health insurance will not (most likely) cover the costs. But if you do it through the general dentist, it's possible it will be covered. Mostly depends on your insurance. Also, NOTHING lasts forever. No matter where you go, sometime in your lifetime, you have to have them restored again, thats just life. But crowns are very long term.
Reply:Who cares if he went to a Ivy league school...it will not make him a better dentist. No dentist can say he or she is a specialist in cosmetic dentistry...it would be false advertisment. Legally and ethically do dentist can claim to be specialist in cosmetic dentistry. Why do you want to have 6 crowns done? The natural teeth are the best...Once you get crowns, you will need to replace those every 6-8 years, espcially in the front. Over time, recession of the gum can happen which can make crowns unesthetic. Get a second opinion on this.
Reply:I have worked for 2 general dentists and both of them did great crowns. I have done alot of cosmetic cases with the first dentist and if the crowns did not look like he wanted them to then he would send them back to the lab and have them remade. You don't have to see a cosmetic dentist to have your crowns look good. I think that your dentist will make sure that they look like you want them to and if they don't he will have them remade.
Reply:I would go to a specialist. that is what they are there for.
he would have the education and knowledge of doing the work that is needed.
Don't play around with it. You only have 1 set of Natural teeth.
Take care of them
Reply:If you have healthy front teeth and are crowning them just for cosmetic reasons... shame on you!
There are so many other things you can do to preserve your natural tooth structure. Just remember, once you crown a tooth you can never go back to a natural tooth. And, while crowns do last, they do not last forever. The average for front teeth is about 10-15 years. That means, in your lifetime they will need replacing about three or four times!
Are your teeth discolored? Out of alignment?
Discolored? Have them bleached. Zoom whitening works very well and leaves the natural tooth structure.
Out of alignment? Have braces. Many of our adult patients are having braces now when they an afford them better than their parents could when they were young.
It sounds to me that your dentist, while probably competent to do a good job, is not too enthusiastic about it. Most good dentists would rather not grind down sound natural teeth just for "pretty".
Ask your dentist what your other options are to beautify your smile and preserve your teeth.
Reply:For starters, it's good that you are weary! Getting a second opinnion never hurt anyone. All dentists have to keep up with their knowledge on up and coming advancements, so him being a family dentist, he has every right to practice crowns and veneers! Personally I would stay with him on this one, you have built up a relationship with this dentist, and more than likely he wont let you down. Plus you have seen his work! Veneers are a bit more pricey than crowns, but I suggest them more so because you are not taking off as much enamel as crown preps, which take 2mm from all sides. Sometimes I have noticed that crowns over time become dull, or look bulky and not as realistic as veneers. Make sure you get " All porcealin if you choose crowns, not metal inlay!" The metal may show a slight gray tint or even appear visible at the borders of the gumline if not seated properly due to gum recession. If you have any more questions you can ask. Hope this helps a bit! =)
Reply:Most general dentists do crown and bridge as well as cosmetic work. YEARS ago I had composite applied to my upper front teeth-6. Mu husband was a dentist. They are still there. The only problem is they darken with age and whitening products do not bleach them. You can have new material applied over them if this happens. I am betting this is alot less expensive than crowns and preserves your teeth.
Reply:From your description it seems the dentist has gone to great lengths to help you feel comfortable. If your gaps are that large than most likely you would need crowns. I would definitely do all porcelain for anterior crowns. They have a more natural look to them. Veneers are very thin and therefore not able to stick very far off the surface of the tooth, that is most likely why crowns are recommended. I feel the majority of general dentists are capable of making nice crowns. Since he is giving you a 5 year warranty, he must feel confident they will hold up well and you will like them. If he only gave them a year, that would seem less confident, I think. If your gaps are as large as you describe it is true that the more teeth you crown, the better the final look will be. They can increase each tooth more evenly that way and you won't look like you have "Chiclets" for teeth. Get a second opinion just for comparison. It never hurts and it may help releave your mind.
Reply:I have had crowns in the back teeth. My son has had two front teeth capped. He did notice a bit of difference in biting, but he had to go with temps for 10 yrs due to and accident. I have not noticed any difference in my ability to chew. I did loose one Gold cap done about 40 years ago but all the others are fine. The porcelain type ones are fine, It is important to clean them as well as regular teeth or you may have trouble with them looking dull. if he has his assistant able to show you his work that speaks volumes check insurance plans tho if your ins is paying for it. My dentist did not accept the insurance figures for the work done for I ended up paying more that if I would have gone to a different dentist. I just did not want to go to a dentist I had never been too...also did not have the time.

Brown spot due to loss of enamel?
I used to drink lots of soda although I stopped years ago. I noticed that my front teeth always were a little thin enamel-wise but not too bad.
Recently, I noticed a brown spot on my front tooth and I believe this is enamel-related. I had been drinking lots of beer the past few weeks.
Can I do anything to fix it? I take calcium supplements every day. Can this be restored with cosmetic dentistry? Thanks in advance.
Brown spot due to loss of enamel?
Hi it could either be a stain, brush your teeth with bicarbonate od soda and see if it comes off if it doesnt it might be arrested decay as they call it. Arrested decay is where the tooth starts to decay but then you stop doing what you were doing to make it rot and the dacy just stops and hardens and goes dark in colour.
So its either Decay or staining! hope i helped :)
Reply:It sounds like it could be a small cavity to me...especially with your history of soda drinking. Most soda cavities are along the gumline %26amp; inbetween teeth.

I would like a dental make over,?
Hey, I need about 5 or 6 Implants also. When you find the answer, email me. I may email my story of how my teeth got like they are to one of those talk shows. I'm young and I got my whole life ahead of me(17). I'm looking to be in the Fashion Industry and I don't want my head shot on a magazine and my teeth looking jacked up no. So when you get the answer, email me. But I also know that it's not gonna be cheap either so, you know.

So if you are absolutely sure you are not wanting to go with partial dentures, bridges or complete dentures---my suggestion would be to visit the links below for the office that is nearest you which will allow you to make monthly payment plans (work with a 3rd party dental financing group).
There are dental offices that will work with 3rd party finance groups which allow you to make monthly payments.
This way you are able to get your surgeries and pay monthly, just like you would for your monthly car payment.
Harder for you to find a discounted dental IMPLANT office per say, but it is much easier to find offices that take monthly payment plans---
Visit the links below--- Sorry to hear you've lost your teeth-- hope that you are able to locate the dental office that will restore your smile back to perfect and you are smiling your biggest smile soon!

P.S. I did find links also that say you can get 'Cheep Dental Implants in Prague and Argentina' HUmmm--- well, maybe??? not sure if they would be reputable, high skill level or have the ability to deliver what you want, nor am I advocating you go internationally--but I have included the links for you in case they are of interest to you--Cost of living there is certainly much less than it is in other countries like the USA, UK, and Japan

For financing, ask if you can make monthly payments to your dentist. Ask if they can give you a break if you pay cash. I've had dental work where they knock off a few $. Or there are dental credit cards specially made for dental work. At low long term interest rates. Bank of america or citi cards offer them but shop around for the best rate. Or you can visit a dental college and ask about rates. Get the phone number online and call or walk in to ask. It's hard to do it online. We use to sit there all day until they had an opening, even when they said no more room. Sometimes someone doesn't show up. The work is really good. It does take longer but deep discount and they are really friendly. I've had extractions for free and other work for reallllly cheap. If it is cosmetic, dental insurance may not cover it. But worth a look. Do a search for dental plans or dentalplans.com. Western dental also offers dental work and plans. Or ask if your dentist offers any. Good luck! =)
Reply:You and many many other people. If you have the money than most places can do the work, however no money no work. I don't know of any places that will take payments on cosmetic work since it is totally elective, meaning your choice and not necessary to the state of your dental/oral health. Some other ideas presented here are good, eg. dental credit cards, etc. You can find a dental school in your area and see if you can get the work completed there. It will cost you a lot less than private practice, however you can't make payments you have to pay in full up-front in most cases. What you have to ask yourself is how did you get to this point in the first place? If you did not take proper care of your teeth in the first place than how are you going to be different with your dental care this time? If you are going to invest the money to fix your teeth make sure that you properly take care of your teeth, and thus your investment this time around.

Cheap braces?
I need to get braces, but I can’t afford it and most benefit insurance plans in Canada don’t cover it, well mine doesn’t anyway. It’s considered cosmetic dentistry… I think it’s stupid. Anyways, anyone know how or where to get cheaper braces?
Cheap braces?
im not from where you are but my son got braces and i called every one in my area till i found one with montly payments and no down payment. he gets his off june 25 and his smile is awsome! just call around you may find one in your budget his was $100.00 a month. Hope this helped you some.
Reply:Ask your dentist or walk into an orthodontist's office and ask if there are programs for low wage earners (or whatever). There might be something out there. There are no such thing as cheap braces; I can tell you that!
Reply:I'm not really sure but you could ask around and find out! my friend crystal has the same problem and It is hard to find alternatives, but hopefully you can find some way to get your braces, just keep asking around and I hope you find the answer! Raven

Professional Appearance For Job Interviews?
I recently resigned from my job and plan on interviewing in the upcoming days and weeks. However, I am also in the process of undergoing cosmetic dentistry (porcelain veneers) to my two front teeth to enhance my smile. Meanwhile, I'm wearing temporary ones that are yellow and don't match my white teeth and are not pleasing to look at. It will take the technician to fabricate the permanent ones about 2 weeks. I'm concerned that going into an interview that this might jeopardize my chances of landing a good job because I know employers do consider professional appearance as a criteria when evaluating a job candidate.
My question is how should I approach this?
1. Just don't worry about and proceed as usual.
2. Wait two weeks and get the permanent implants then peruse job hunting.
3.Apologize up front for the appearance of my teeth a explain the situation to the interviewer before the interviewer notices it on his/her own and forms a negative opinion.
Professional Appearance For Job Interviews?
In this situation I think I would apologize up front and explain that the smile will be back 100% by the time you start!
No really, I think I would not bring it up unless you notice some kind of reaction to them. It probably is not as bad as you think. Practice smiling with only a small open smile, instead of your normal brilliant one.
When they call for the interview just tell them that you cannot possibly make that time, as you have a dentist appointment. Then they will know you are already having work done and may even bring it up, and open the door for your explanation tactfully.
(besides that it is always good to not behave like you are not going on other interviews and have appointments, the busier an applicant is generally means the better candidate they are)
Reality is it may take you two weeks to land an interview anyway.
Good luck in your search
Reply:First off, ask someone you can trust to sit across from you as if you are going through an interview and tell you if they can really "see" that your teeth are a problem. Tell them to be absolutely honest. If they agree it's something that stands out odd, then you should mention it right at the beginning of the interview. Simply say "Before we start I just want to apologize for the appearance of my two front teeth. I'm having work down and these are temporaries. I'm a bit self-conscious about these, so I thought I should just let you know up front before we began to talk." If you don't bring it up, and the interviewer finds it distracting... they won't be concentrating on your answers.
Reply:Don't even worry about your teeth! They have nothing to do with professional appearance. I have nasty braces on my teeth and still got hired as a receptionist to greet million $$ clients! You'll be fine. Just don't show that you're self conscious; do not apologize for anything while you are in an interview. Go in and project confidence; employers are looking for that.

Bonded tooth?
I have a bonded tooth in the front, What is the best way to whiten my teeth, without making the bond darker ( or look darker), those white stips don't work..home remidies please, I can't afford cosmetic dentistry
Bonded tooth?
I don't think it's possible without professional help. I also have a bonded tooth in the front (funny story - not at the time, but anyway) and there isn't really anything that takes to it. And if you use the at home whitening stuff, you can have weird discoloration between the real and the fake.
My best suggestion is to get one of those dental picks and try to clean your teeth similar to what the dentist uses. You can usually find them in the drug store by the dental section.
Reply:if you have any kind of dentistry done to your teeth,
NO over the counter , whitening process will work, these are only for natural teeth enamel,
You can only have them whitened by your dentist, I know this is more expensive then the store brands but it's your only option,
Ask your dentist if they can arrange a payment schedule for you, and make monthly payments.
If you do try any of the home whitening products you will end up with all your natural teeth, whitening, with the bonded tooth, looking worse, then it did to begin with.
Reply:Your diet could be the culprit of your discoloration. Foods such as cola drinks, coffees, teas, chocolate, or any other foods containing caffeine will all cause discolorations of a composite resin. Blueberries or other staining foods also should be avoided. The age of your composite resin bond could also be affecting your discoloration. Generally, this type of restoration will only retain the original shade for a period of time (about two to three years) before it discolors. Depending upon your situation another option may possibly be to have this tooth veneered. This is a less expensive alternative to a crown (or cap) and less traumatic for the tooth. Once the veneer is adhered the porcelain color is permanent.
Reply:The year I turned 30, I had my tooth rebonded. (I ran into a truck on my bike when I was like 12) and he used a ceramic material simular to what he uses to fill cavities. He also billed it to my insurance as a cavity, so that was cool. I haven't had any problems with discoloration at all, and that was seven years ago!
Reply:As a dental assistant, if you have had ANY dental work done it CAN NOT be bleached by ANY product, over the counter or in the dental office, it is the color it is FOREVER! What you can do is go in and have the bonding redone, or just go in and get a veener over the bonding, and trust me, do all of your bleaching on your other teeth before you get the one in question redone so it will match, also, go just a shade or two whiter than the other teeth so that if you decide to have in office bleaching, you wont have this problem again with an expensive veener!!

How do I become a model (for tax purposes)?
I want Uncle Sam to give me back some of my own money. I already pay for a gym membership and hairstyling. I just need personal training and cosmetic dentistry. I don't live in LA or NYC. Maybe I'll take a business trip there to attend a casting call. What do I need to do to make this work?
How do I become a model (for tax purposes)?
Do not go to some acting or modeling school like Barbizon or Robert powers, John Casablancas...they are rip-offs. I attended one and they just take your money and they do not give you work afterwards.
If you are looking to actual representation look to some of the high modeling agencies like Ford, Whilhemina, IMG, MTM, places like that. Get some pictures under your belt, headshots and full body shots. Get some comp cards made up and submit them that way and see if they are interested.
FYI-If you make 500 in a year doing promo work, you will get reimbursed for your person care items.
Reply:Go to google and type in "Barbizon Modeling and Acting"

Diastemas?
I go to the dentist today to get a fairly small gap between my 2 front teeth filled in, but the dentist ends up making the gap bigger, stating that he couldn't fix the present diastema. Anyway, I would like to know two things. Firstly, does the gap eventually close up as I grow older (I'm fairly young)? Secondly, is there a way to fill in the gap, naturally or with cosmetic dentistry, other than veneers, because my dentist wishes to place them in when I'm eighteen... Oy...Oh, that brings up another question. Why does he want to put veneers in when I'm eighteen, is that just a personal choice on his part?
Diastemas?
Your dentist is waiting for your jaw to stop growing and that is why he is waiting until you are 18 yrs old.
Sometimes the space can be filled with a composite resin, and sometimes a veneer might be a bit better.
He may be able to close it up a little with the filling material until then, but the space shouldn't be any bigger than it was before, if it is, I would find a new dentist.
Your very best option would be braces, did your dentist give you that option?
Reply:Teeth have a natural tendency to move towards the mid-line, so yes, eventually this diastema will close. Unfortunately, this movement cannot be predicted and could not happen for many years.
You can have this gap closed with composite resin. It doesn't require removing any tooth structure, and can be done in one sitting. Plus, it costs way less than a veneer.
Veneers are a good option when there is great loss of tooth structure. If that's not your case, I would say the dentist is after your money. And if you're 18, and you change your mind, you can't sue, because you are consenting to treatment all by yourself.

Go to Thailand?
For top cosmetic dentistry? Can anybody tell me more?
Go to Thailand?
Thailand has become a major destination for medical and dental tourism, and offers world class and accredited health care and dental services. I live in Bangkok and the hospitals and dental clinics I've used put their American counterparts to shame for the facilities and costs for the procedures I've had done. I've never had cosmetic dentistry, but a friend of mine will be here soon to have some dental implants done, after thoroughly researching the subject he has decide on: http://www.bangkokdentalcenter.com/EN/ab...
There are many other highly reputable dental clinics and hospitals with top-notch reputations as well. My friend has told me the procedure he will be having done is less than half the cost of the same procedure in the U.S.. Good luck.
Reply:I've heard you can save a great deal of money. But....If you live in the US, what happens if there's a problem??? You want to fly back there ? There's a major risk in trying to save money...
Reply:go to my dentist. Perfect Smile. They are cute, cheap and do great work in Chiang Mai. They are right next to Thapee gate next to the mexican resurant.
Reply:Yes. I would suggest having the work done in Thailand. Westerners who've never been to Asia might be apprehensive, but their dentists (and other medical professionals) are absolutely great. If this weren't the case, people from outside Asia wouldn't continue to return and refer others. The facilities are absolutely wonderful and their service just as good. I had a chipped front tooth and for US$20, I had it fixed. It's perfect. Not exactly a complicated procedure, but the service and quality was the same (actually, more convenient as it was in a mall) and it was much cheaper than if I did it in the US.
You should take a trip to Thailand, visit some of their clinics, see what they do and make your decision. If you still decide against having work done, you'll still get an awesome vacation out of it!

Reply:Why not ? the cost of implants is about 50% of UK prices and you get a holiday as well. Make sure you use a hospital or dental clinic that is ISO 9001 accredited . When I was in Udon Thani I rented a de-luxe apartment with en-suite, ac, maid service, secure parking, security,tv and fridge from the AEK hospital and I noted they done cosmetic work.

Do you have Lumineers or have had your teeth bonded?
I want cosmetic dentistry done and have narrowed it down to these two options. I want to know if you like the results or not? What is the price you paid and which one worked best for you? Also any negative experience shared would be helpful as well. Thanks!

3. one last thing is that it will take me abotu 8 years to become a dentist, are their any schools that offer a special program that will shorten the time period before i can get a DDS.
What steps should i take ?
I'm a medical doctor, but the pre-medical and pre-dental pathways are very similar.
1. Pre-dental isn't really a college major. You want to look at colleges that have strong programs in the physical and life sciences. Biology, chemistry, physics, that sort of thing. You don't have to be a science major to go to Dental School (I was an English Major who went to Medical School), but you will have to take a lot of science classes, so good science departments are key, even if you major in Ancient Greek Literature. Specific colleges are hard to suggest because I have no idea where you are or where you want to go to college... there are literally hundreds of good programs around the country.
2. Either AP Bio or Chem will serve you just fine. You'll be taking both Bio and Chem as a pre-dental student. Take what you aren't as strong in... which should help you reinforce that area of weakness. Another stragegy is to take what you think you can get a better grade in, which can help in getting in to a better college. Most importantly, take what you enjoy and STUDY HARD. Master as much material in whatever you choose... you are so early in the process, that you can't make a wrong choice on a specific course, but now is the time to learn good study habits.
3. There are some schools that offer combined BS/MD degrees, but they generally don't shave much time off the path to being a doctor. I'm not as sure about Dentistry. But my best advice is to not worry about the time it takes. It goes REALLY fast, and you have decades in your future to practice dentistry. I took several years after my undergrad degree before I returned to medical school in my late 20's. That time really allowed me to mature, experience life, travel, etc. etc. Now, I'm a relatively new doctor, still young age-wise and FAR more street-smart and experienced than many of my collegues who went through the process at lightspeed.
Good luck!

Start taking your prerequisites for college now. You can get things like English, History, Speech, and Math done in night classes. By the time you graduate High school you will be ready for your second year of college. GOOD for you!!! You will truely make your parents proud!
Reply:1. Going to a big name college doesn't mean as much when applying to dental school as it does in other fields. Go to a good 4 year university that offers the required coursework to get into dental school. Dental school is expensive so I would suggest an inexpensive college if you can find one. State schools are great.
2. Both the chemistry and biology will be good for you so take the one you will enjoy most.
3. There are a few programs out there that can shave a year off the total time, but you really limit your "exploring" time in college in these programs. I believe New Jersey has a program like that. I loaded up on the classes and completed my bachelor's degree in 3 years so that saved me a year without being in a special program. ONLY do this if you can keep getting A's with such a heavy course load. No sense rushing through if it is going to be counterproductive.
Congratulations on setting goals for yourself and thinking ahead. Dentistry is a great profession. My advice to you would be to not try to rush things too much. Work hard and enjoy the ride. Good Luck!!!!

Where is best place and most cost effective to get a complete mouth overhaul with some implants and veneers?
When you're dealing with procedures such as implants, you can either afford them, or you can't. There's not much middle ground there. Implanting implants is a surgery. They DRILL into your head. You can get serious infections. You do not want to go the "cheapest route" w/ that. A few hundred dollars isn't going to make a big difference when you're talking about getting multiple implants. You may receive a discount, but I doubt it. You want the BEST, not the cheapest.
As far as veneers, they're going to be on your front teeth, right? I'll put it this way, you get what you pay for most of the time.
The best do it right. Be concerned w/ who has the most experience and highest satisfaction rate, rather than price.
Good luck!
I hope you get that 1,000 watt smile!!
Happy Holidays!

Reply:implants in the uk are around £2000 per tooth! this may be cheaper if you have more than one as they can somtimes join the 2 implants a bit like a bridge, they are only as good as the bone holding it in and although excellent when they work they can have nasty side effects when done wrong.you do not want to risk a servere infection just because denist is cheap! price will allways range from dentist to dentist and there are many good practicioners abroad who will not be so expensive but you should meet and have a look around the surgerys before signing up for anything and feel comfortable with who u are dealing with.
there are other options available like bridges crowns and even dentures which you may find better, but it is best to get a recomendation from your dentist to get an idea on what is most suitable for your mouth, hope this helps, merry christmas and good luck.
Reply:Michael, there is no harm in going to Mexico, Turkey, Dubai, India, Thailand, etc for full mouth dentistry as it involves huge money here. Josi above has totally misfounded perception about dentistry in other countries. She has made a statement like a toad in the well. Until they became celebrity, many venture abroad to enjoy the price differential in dentistry and getting their dental work done from dentists having excellent credentials. And those celebrities won't talk about it. Just go ahead and make your yahoo or google search like full mouth reconstruction dentistry in Mexico, Dubai, India, Turkey, etc.

How exactly do Veneers work?
Ive considered cosmetic dentistry to make my teeth fuller and whiter, but Im not quite sure what the varying options are or what their advantages are?
How exactly do Veneers work?
Veneers bring glow to you smile, doesn't matter they are the traditional porcelain veneers or Lumineers. The former is a time tested product while the latter is still under testing waters and long way to go.

Reply:I have them and they are beautiful. All of the celebrities get them. basically they fit you for veneers and they prep your teeth for them. they send your prep work and everything to a lab and then when your veneers are ready they are sent back put over your teeth. they are permanent don't discolor and they are beautiful BTW, they file down your permanent teeth under to make them fit. GET THEM

Reply:My top front six teeth are all veneers. They were quite pricy but they make my smile look so much better! And I got to choose what shade of white I wanted my teeth. I have had them for about a year now and on two occasions I had to go back to the dentist to get one of them on both occasions glued back in. So far other than that, no problems.
Reply:Dont get veneers! The dentist do a lot of prep to your teeth (shaving them etc...). I would suggest lumineers same concept as veneers but hardly and prep to your natural teeth. I have them and they are wonderful....look into them at the website below..they also have pictures. Good luck!

Atheists, Do Atheists know that there are Christian lawyers that would help you with your divorce?
I received a Christian phone book today. I mention it here in another YARS question of mine:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Would this help you become Christian? What about Christian pest control or Christian restaurants?
I am not a Christian by a long shot but I might in my very very old age consider using one of these Christian dentists for some Christian-Style cosmetic dentistry.
IDK, I actually hope I don't need it.
What do you think?
Atheists, Do Atheists know that there are Christian lawyers that would help you with your divorce?
My local area also has a christian business directory. I read it regularly and refuse to patronize businesses and services listed in it. I was sad to find one of my favorite local eateries listed in it recently, and will no longer eat there.
I think religion is utter and complete nonsense and refuse to support it in any way. I certainly don't want 10% of the bill for my meal going to support some local christian church.
EDIT - By the way, I'm not joking - our area DOES have a christian business directory.

Reply:Why do you belittle Christians? If they made jokes about gays you would be up in arms but you joke about them. I see.
Reply:Not an atheist. I am a Christian attorney. I advertise in the yellow pages.
Thanks for the tip, though.
ADDED: I'll just give you my own personal opinion on this. First of all, no attorney PROMOTES divorce. When someone calls me, they have already made the decision. When the person is a Christian, it is a terribly painful one for them. Why shouldn't they have an understanding lawyer? ALSO--Most states (not all) have no-fault divorce laws. This means that a party who does not want the divorce has NO choice in the matter. I help those people, too. At the end of the day, however, I am making an honest living using the abilities that God has allowed me to have.

Pest Control.. Excellent Idea.. Get rid of ALL who are pests.
LOL
Reply:Sad part is, Christian divorce is about the same level as secular divorce. Of course I know what the reason is for this, but most people overlook it.
First of all, only 25% of Christians actually read their Bible.
How can you call yourself a Christian when you don't even read the words of Jesus.
Second, many people who call themselves Christians are really what we would call practicing Christians. They may have went to Church or was brought up in it, but don't really have a relationship with Christ.
Third, families don't pray together anymore like they used to. While the average divorce rate is probably around 1 out of 2, do you know what the divorce rate for couples who pray at least 5 minutes a day together is? About one in a thousand.
Have a blessed day.

Dentist Fee?
I scheduled an appt with a dentist that is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry overall she charges $308 for the exam, xrays, cleaning and consultation. Is this worth the amount? Or is this fee a little too expensive?
Dentist Fee?
Each dentist sets their own fees, irreregardles of what organizations they are members of.
Call around to other dentists and ask them what they charge. This will give you an idea of the charges.
Reply:absolutely to expensive you can get check up like the one you had for as low as d80.00 if this visit had no cavities filled then my dear you where over over over charged and should insist on a refund or you will report them to the better business bureau but first get the name of the person in charge of the school ( pres, chairman etc. and contact them ) If the dentist doesnt refund by contacting there superiors wiill get them moving trust me been there done that in nyc dental school on 2nd ave. they tried to overcharge me 500.00 i made the biggest commotion insisted on seeing the chairman he got wind of the problem and my price was lowered. speak up after all its your money honey
Reply:Cosmetic anything costs more. I have seen some regular dentists give free first time exams. My dentist charges about 100 dollars.
Reply:That's too much. Check with your friends who have great teeth and get a reference. Get 3 references and compare.
Reply:If you're getting a full mouth set of xrays (fmx), complete exam and a prophylaxis (cleaning) $308 is about right. Do call back and ask if your are getting a "cleaning" in that estimate. Many patients assume when they make and appt. (especially a new patient one) a cleaning comes with the exam and xrays, but many dentists want to do the exam before actually scheduling for a cleaning. This way they can check your gums and see what type of cleaning you need.
Your gonna pay more for the Äcademy of Cosmetic dentistry". If your not looking to change the appearance of your teeth find a good dentist by asking your friends, neighbors, co-workers, your kids friends parents. Word of mouth is the best way to find a good dentist, and most all of them can do great cosmetic work if you need that too.
I worked in the dental world for over 20 years and know that finding an honest dentist you like is better than whether or not they attended an academy of cosmetics for a certificate.
Reply:The appointment won't be any different than if you scheduled with anyone else, except for the fees quoted.
Being a member of the AACD means only that.. a fee was paid to become a member, just like a fee is paid to be a member of the American Academy of General Dentistry, Orthodontic Dentistry, etc... If the dentist is a prosthodontist, who specializes in cosmetic dentistry (crowns, bridges, dentures, veneers, etc.) then he's a specialist and has additional years under his belt to master the profession.
In my office, the fee for a comprehensive oral exam (including an oral cancer screening and periodontal probing), a full set of xrays, a cleaning and a consultation would be $240.
Call around to get different quotes... but don't use the 'lesser' fee to determine who you end up going to... you want quality, not quantity.
Best of luck!

My credit is bad. And my teeth are in dire need of alot of work. Who has good dental loans for bad credit?
I need some cosmetic dentistry done. A.S.A.P
My credit is bad. And my teeth are in dire need of alot of work. Who has good dental loans for bad credit?
Have you considered traveling outside the country to have your work done? Depending on how much work you need done, it can save you a ton of money. I am having my entire mouth restored with crowns in two months in Mexico. The dentists are certified by colleges in the U.S., and the price is much cheaper. For everything (dental work, accomodations, gas), it will cost me around $7,000 to have done what a dentist in the U.S. wanted to charge me nearly $40,000 to do. Check around the border towns and see if there a dentist you like. Even if you only need a few caps or just a couple of root canals, it can still pay to consider crossing the border.
Reply:You may want to consider a dental discount plan. It will save you alot of money on the work that you need to get done. AmeriPlan has a great dental plan and its only 19.95 a month to receive savings of up to 80% on all dental procedures. There are no credit checks with this program, no copays, no deductibles, no limits. Lots of local providers.

Reply:Look into a local school of dentistry. I don't know if they do cosmetic work or just health-related dental work for dental health. You may get the services at a fraction of the cost. You can also contact your local dental society to get the names of dentists that provide free, low-cost and sliding scale care. Most cities, states and some counties have societies. They are usually named after their prospective city, state or county.
