Dentist Fee?

I scheduled an appt with a dentist that is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry overall she charges $308 for the exam, xrays, cleaning and consultation. Is this worth the amount? Or is this fee a little too expensive?

Dentist Fee?
Each dentist sets their own fees, irreregardles of what organizations they are members of.

Call around to other dentists and ask them what they charge. This will give you an idea of the charges.
Reply:absolutely to expensive you can get check up like the one you had for as low as d80.00 if this visit had no cavities filled then my dear you where over over over charged and should insist on a refund or you will report them to the better business bureau but first get the name of the person in charge of the school ( pres, chairman etc. and contact them ) If the dentist doesnt refund by contacting there superiors wiill get them moving trust me been there done that in nyc dental school on 2nd ave. they tried to overcharge me 500.00 i made the biggest commotion insisted on seeing the chairman he got wind of the problem and my price was lowered. speak up after all its your money honey
Reply:Cosmetic anything costs more. I have seen some regular dentists give free first time exams. My dentist charges about 100 dollars.
Reply:That's too much. Check with your friends who have great teeth and get a reference. Get 3 references and compare.
Reply:If you're getting a full mouth set of xrays (fmx), complete exam and a prophylaxis (cleaning) $308 is about right. Do call back and ask if your are getting a "cleaning" in that estimate. Many patients assume when they make and appt. (especially a new patient one) a cleaning comes with the exam and xrays, but many dentists want to do the exam before actually scheduling for a cleaning. This way they can check your gums and see what type of cleaning you need.

Your gonna pay more for the Äcademy of Cosmetic dentistry". If your not looking to change the appearance of your teeth find a good dentist by asking your friends, neighbors, co-workers, your kids friends parents. Word of mouth is the best way to find a good dentist, and most all of them can do great cosmetic work if you need that too.

I worked in the dental world for over 20 years and know that finding an honest dentist you like is better than whether or not they attended an academy of cosmetics for a certificate.
Reply:The appointment won't be any different than if you scheduled with anyone else, except for the fees quoted.

Being a member of the AACD means only that.. a fee was paid to become a member, just like a fee is paid to be a member of the American Academy of General Dentistry, Orthodontic Dentistry, etc... If the dentist is a prosthodontist, who specializes in cosmetic dentistry (crowns, bridges, dentures, veneers, etc.) then he's a specialist and has additional years under his belt to master the profession.

In my office, the fee for a comprehensive oral exam (including an oral cancer screening and periodontal probing), a full set of xrays, a cleaning and a consultation would be $240.

Call around to get different quotes... but don't use the 'lesser' fee to determine who you end up going to... you want quality, not quantity.

Best of luck!
