Ever been a patient for student dentists? how was it?

I'm in NJ by the way. I'm thinking about it. I heard its cheaper than regular dentists so I want to know how your experience was. Accdg. to one of the universities I contacted, the rate is dependent on your income - crowns can be from $300 - $800, root canals $400 and up, etc. The intial visit is $55 (includes Xrays, checking the teeth and diagnosis.) Also, do you think they also do cosmetic dentistry like teeth whitening or invisalign?

I have been a clinical professor for 35 years and have supervised dental students all during that time.

It does take longer to get each task done because each step is checked for completeness (and often graded). Generally the work completed is of superior quality and also is (much) less expensive.

I often explained to our patients that what you save in money, you spend in time, so be sure you do not take time off work from a high paying job to have dental students do the work.

If you are close to a dental school and can afford the extra time, then go for it.

yes i was .... they even paid me for some dental work because they got graded on it. and it was pleasant experience and they are supervised 100%. that was back in the 80's. my sister was attending that college and told me about students needed certain dental conditions to get examed on. check it out. it is cheaper then going to the dentist.
