What is cosmetic dentistry??

Is it when u go to the dentist and get all your teeth fixed and straightened in one visit or what??

What is cosmetic dentistry??
cosmetic dentistry is just a branch off the field of dentistry. no it doesnt refer to a one-time visit to get your teeth perfect, that's probably not possible. a cosmetic dentist is one who works to make teeth LOOK better. so they would do porcelain veneers like on extreme makeover, they would do teeth whitening, that kind of thing....its different than a regular dentistry where they work to make sure your teeth are the healthiest they can be by doing cleanings and root canals and things..cosmetic dentistry focuses on making them look better (and sees that they are healthy too).
Reply:It's anything done to make you LOOK better
Reply:Not in just one visit but the procedure is correct. It takes about three visit but if you find a good dentist then the work will look great....
Reply:Not necessarily in one visit, cosmetic means more like veneers put on and/or whitening and it usually takes more then one visit.
Reply:Caps, crowns, veneers, braces, bleaching you name it anything that is not medically necessary is cosmetic. My son had to have root canals yet the caps were considered cosmetic. I think the silver fillings are the only thing that isn't cosmetic
Reply:cosmetic dentistary is one of the biggest and up and coming cosmetic procedures. it can be done in 1 session or over a peroid of time

hope i have helped

Reply:i thought it was getting your teeth whitened and maybe getting porcelain veneres.
Reply:It's getting your teeth to look better. The number of visits depends on how bad your teeth are and how much work you need done. They can do anything now ... fill gaps, shear large teeth to normal size, shear uneven teeth, give you caps for heavily filled teeth, give you veneers to make them look whiter, etc. I had to have a lot of work done and it took a couple of months, but if you're just getting veneers for example, then it can be done in one or two visits.

Reply:The term "cosmetic dentistry" can mean almost anything, and almost any dentist can call themselves a "cosmetic dentist."

It is not a true recognized specialty by the American Dental Association.

Bleaching, veneers, contouring....in fact almost ALL dentistry should be cosmetic - that is, it should make your teeth look better than when you started.

From insurance perspective - "cosmetic" only refers to those procedures which are not clinically necessary. Some veneers on front teeth might be paid for if substantiated for clinical reasons. Some orthodontia might be medically necessary to correct defects, etc. Each plan has different guidelines.
Reply:It's when nothing is "wrong" with your teeth...they're healthy or cavity free...you just want to get them cosmetically altered because something about them (size, colour) bothers you.
Reply:I've heard about it! But I'm rather use medicated toothpaste for flouride protection and Crest White Strips sample for whiter teeth. It works for me, and it only takes two weeks before you see the actual results. You may also browse this site http://www.upkb.com/crestwhitestrips.php for product tips and details.
